There was a pause.

Then, quieter, “How much do you know?”

I looked down at the envelope in my hand, then over at the laptop sitting closed on the counter.

“Everything,” I said.


Silence.

Not defensive.

Not dismissive.

Just silence.

And that was when I knew.

Not because he admitted it.

But because he didn’t argue.
