Ricardo followed the direction of his gaze.
Esperanza was standing by the stove, with a wooden spoon in her hand, laughing because Santiago had stolen a napkin and running down the hallway. It was a simple, almost humble scene, and yet it contained more truth than all the boardrooms where Ricardo had spent half a lifetime.
He approached, hugged Esperanza in the back and kissed Santiago’s head when the boy ran past. Matthew opened the oven, let out the steam and smiled.
Outside it was raining.
But inside, finally, no one was alone.
