But this time, Nicole didn’t want to disappear.
A Night Her Father Would Be Proud Of
Later that evening, Mr. Bradley handed Nicole the microphone.
She only said a few sentences.
“Years ago, I promised my dad I would make him proud. I hope I did. And if he’s watching tonight, I want him to know that everything good in me came from him.”
That was enough.
After the music returned and the night ended, Aunt Hilda quietly took Nicole to the cemetery.
The grass was still damp, and the sky glowed gold as the sun set.
Nicole knelt beside her father’s grave and placed her hands on the stone.
“I did it, Dad,” she whispered. “I made sure you were with me all day.”
Johnny never got to see Nicole walk into prom.
But thanks to that dress, he was still there with her.
