The Truth at 3 A.M.

The Truth at 3 A.M.

#### Part 2: The Note That Raised Questions

Later that evening, a charge nurse came in to check on Howard. She was calm and professional, but observant. Very observant.

As Jasper leaned over to adjust the blanket, Howard flinched.

It was subtle—so quick most people would have missed it.

But she didn’t.

And neither did I.

A few moments later, as she walked past me, she slipped something into my hand without saying a word.

I waited until I was alone to open it.

“He’s not telling the truth. Check the camera at 3 a.m.”

My heart skipped.

I found the nurse shortly after and quietly asked what she meant. Without drawing attention, she explained that the hospital had monitoring cameras in patient rooms for safety. If I wanted clarity, I should check the recording at the exact time she mentioned.

No more. No less.

Her tone told me everything—this wasn’t a guess. It was concern.

#### Part 3: What the Camera Revealed

At exactly 2:58 a.m., I stood outside the security office door.

I hesitated for a moment… then knocked.

Inside, a guard pulled up the requested footage. The screen showed Howard asleep, small and still under the hospital blanket. The chair beside him—where Jasper said he’d be—was empty.

Then the timestamp changed.

3:00 a.m.
