“I didn’t know I could be this happy with someone so simple and genuine.”
And so, their love grew.
Each day brought new moments of joy, closeness, and simple happiness. Despite the hardships and the mockery, they knew they had found something that neither money, power, nor status could ever buy:
a sincere and true love.
One evening, after their walk by the river, Marie took a deep breath. She knew she could no longer keep her secret.
“Jean, I have to tell you something,” she said softly.
Jean looked at her, surprised by the seriousness in her tone.
“What is it? Is everything okay?”
Marie lowered her eyes for a few seconds, then spoke.
“I… I’m not just a waitress. I’m rich—very rich. I come from a prestigious family in the city.”
Jean stared at her, motionless. His expression showed surprise, almost disappointment.
“You mean all this time… you hid that from me?” he said slowly. “You didn’t tell me the truth.”
Marie lifted her eyes to him, her gaze full of sincerity.
“I wanted to meet you for who you are, not for your money, and not for mine. I wanted you to love me for who I am and not for my wealth.”
Jean stayed silent for a long moment. Then he took a deep breath and murmured,
“I understand… but it’s hard to believe. I thought we had been honest with each other from the beginning.”
Marie smiled faintly, shy but courageous.
“We have been honest about what really matters. And I promise you, everything I have felt for you is real.”
Jean looked at her, still shaken, but his expression softened.
“All right. I believe you,” he finally said.
