For years, Rosa had worked in Leonardo’s mansion in Santa Aurelia. She always arrived early, never complained, and kept a gentle smile on her face—despite her tired eyes and the weight she carried on her shoulders.

Leonardo, buried in meetings and obligations, had rarely paused to consider her life outside of work. He treated her respectfully, but she remained a distant presence in his busy world.

Lately, however, something about Rosa had begun to unsettle him. The day she fainted while sweeping the patio. The way her voice trembled on phone calls she thought no one heard.

Or when she silently cried while washing dishes, unaware Leonardo had seen her from the terrace.

So that Thursday, Leonardo canceled an important meeting, told his assistant he would be unavailable, and drove alone to Rosa’s neighborhood.

She had never shared exact details about her personal life, but Leonardo found a clue on an old employee form and followed it to a modest district called San Gabriel—narrow streets, aging walls, and an atmosphere far removed from his own world.

Standing outside her small brick home, Leonardo felt a nervous tension he couldn’t explain. Rosa was always so strong, so composed. What was she hiding?

When she opened the door, her shock was immediate.

“Mr. Valdés… why are you here? —she whispered, eyes wide.”

“Hello, Rosa. I wanted to check on you. I want to know how you’re really doing —he replied, trying to sound calm even as his heart raced.”

She let him in. Inside, the simple home felt warm, filled with faded photographs and memories of a family that had endured more than it revealed.

As they sat in the tiny living room, Rosa opened up about her life: the dreams she once had, and the difficulties she faced every day. Leonardo listened, each word settling heavily in his mind.

But then her expression shifted, and he sensed a deeper pain.

“Rosa… what’s really hurting you? —he asked gently.”
