Looking at their social media pages told a quiet story. Chhatise’s page was mostly her own content. McKis’s page was full of her — vacation photos, tributes, anniversary posts, random everyday moments he wanted to document. He called her his wife. She was the woman he was building everything around.
As far back as November 2018, McKis posted about how fortunate he felt to have her in his life. On Mother’s Day in May 2023, he posted again, thanking her specifically for being dependable, reliable, caring, and strong — not just as a mother, but as a person.
The rare times Chhatise acknowledged McKis publicly tended to be milestone occasions. Anniversaries. Things like that.
In November 2024, McKis took Chhatise to Jamaica to celebrate her 30th birthday. She had wanted to be there for that milestone. So he made sure it happened.
On Valentine’s Day 2025, Chhatise posted about the gift she had received. He had moved the family into a bigger house — five bedrooms, two full bathrooms, two living areas, a large backyard, upstairs and downstairs. She wrote that she could not ask for anything more than that.
On the surface, this looked like a couple doing life together. Trips. A new home. Five children. Milestones acknowledged.
But people close to McKis said the picture underneath was more complicated.

Back in August 2023, while she was still with McKis, Chhatise posted that she enjoyed being single and that she could move how she wanted to. That post was made when she was already in a relationship with McKis.
Then came April 2025.
On April 16th, she shared a post about Scorpios. It described how calm and laid-back Scorpios tend to be until they feel disrespected or played — and that when that line is crossed, they react first and think later.
The next day, April 17th, she reposted again. This one described how once a Scorpio is made to see someone differently, they never quite look at that person the same way again. She wrote: “Scorpios can’t unsee anything. Once you make a Scorpio look at you different, they’ll never look at you the same again. Scorpios will forgive you, but they’ll always feel like they got to watch or limit how they show you love because Scorpios put their trust in you and then you blew it. Now you got the dangerous side of a Scorpio, and that’s not a place you want to be with them.”
On April 18th, she shared one more. This one simply said, “The Scorpio and her would tweak out in a minute.” She added her own caption underneath: she couldn’t help it.
Three consecutive days. Right before Easter.

On April 20th, 2025 — Easter Sunday — Birmingham police received the first call around 9:50 p.m. Initial reports said four shots had been fired. While en route, officers received an update.
“Officers were updated that a female was trying to run over a male in a vehicle,” police said.
When officers arrived, they found McKis pinned between the SUV and a house. The birthday party and Easter celebration had taken place at that very house.
“Because those kids were there, this can now be a capital murder case,” a legal analyst later explained. “Because anytime in Alabama when there’s a child that the couple shares in common that’s under the age of 14, you now could be looking at capital murder.”
None of the children were physically harmed. They were taken into police custody.

On April 21st, 2025 — what would have been his daughter’s 7th birthday — homicide detectives brought the case before the Jefferson County Magistrate’s office. A capital charge warrant was issued for Chhatise Renee Jackson. The charges were elevated given that her children were inside the vehicle when it happened. She was transferred to Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
On April 23rd, 2025, the Birmingham Police Department confirmed the arrest publicly. Their statement noted that witnesses reported seeing Chhatise enter her vehicle and run over McKis, causing him to be struck between the vehicle and a neighboring house.
Then came the courtroom moment people could not move past.
Chhatise walked into court laughing and smiling — like she felt no remorse for what she had done. Her hair was visibly disheveled on one side. She whispered across the room. She smiled at someone in the gallery.
Her attorney later claimed at a subsequent hearing that McKis’s family had pulled her hair during the confrontation. Supporters asked: was that the truth? Was what people saw a woman in shock? Or someone who had already decided how she felt?
